Far from a typical modern science text, this Catholic textbook first introduces the upper middle school or lower high school student to certain key concepts necessary for clear thinking and a proper approach to scientific studies. Some of these concepts include

logical concepts such as genus, species, and specific difference, the requirements for the formation of good definitions;

philosophical concepts such as matter and form;

and scientific topics such as the proper way to think about measurement, the four kinds of scales, the important of units of measurements and the various systems of units.
